Somerville, Indiana | Don't get in a rush to burn the part that burns easily, use it later for hard to burn stumps and root wads...Keep the part that burns easily on the bottom of the pile and the hard to burn stumps etc on top of the pile...Saw the stumps off the larger trees and keep them in the far to dry them...Dirt will fall off the stumps as they dry and all will burn for the patient...If using a bucket machine to crowd the pile together, never dump the bucket in the pile, back and turn, dump at the same time...Only a small amount of dirt will cool the coals needed to burn the stumps...push in straight with the bucket lifting the stumps to the top of the pile as they go...I start the pile with some dry dead wood until the coals get going...The second day things get going good.
