I presume you are from an area were production costs are low...year round grazing on cheaper land maybe. Here with high hay prices etc the cost to winter a cow is well over 2.25 a day for 180 day period plus vet ,grass ,land costs, yardage. So getting 700-800 for a bawling calf doesn't do much for mortgages and living.
