Subject: RE: The future of hay grinding

Baldwin City, KS
I think alot of folks are purchasing verticals that had never been around them, much as we did last year. When you realize it's not as fast and easy as you had it pictured in your head with a vertical, It might help pick things up for the grinders. We bought an H1000 to speed things up, but I'm not sure how I will like grinding either, since we haven't had to run it much and it already broke down.
No easy answer, you either waste hay in bale rings or you burn fuel and time with your equipment, in an effort to be more efficient. Sometimes you do both, as I've seen some cows push alot of ground hay out of the concrete bunks back onto the feed road, where it won't even get turds on it and at least make good manure!
