Elkmont, AL | I'm currently on 38" row pattern. Dryland yields in my area typically range from 100-175 at best. In good years my yields are competitive with my neighbors on 30"s. I don't plant much corn, but the only agronomic reason I see to switch to 30"s is if most of my corn was irrigated and I was pushing populations >30k. Unless I were to fall into tons of irrigation and quit cotton I don't plan on switching, I just don't see the advantage in my dryland area. Finding good clean 30" equipment is way easier, but I love my tires on my tractors not rubbing my inside fenders, not having to keep duals on them so they don't turn over, and my fat rear end does good to squeeze in between 38" cotton picker heads as it is. Wide row equipment does seem to be cheaper, but finding good quality pieces is tough. I'm sure everyone in my area would disagree with my opinion, but thats just what it is "my opinion". | |
