North West IA/western AZ | When I was a teen we side dressed corn with ammonia every year. Pulled a 500 gallon tank with 5 knives behide with a 70 JD. In those days to fill the tank, you would pull up to the 1000 gallon tank like the one venting in the video, connect the hose to the 500 gallon tank, open the liquid valve between them and then open a gas vent valve on the applicator. Pressure from the nurse tank pushed the liquid into the applicator tank. The gas vent had a tube down to the 80% level so when liquid started coming out you were full. You shut all the valves, unhooked the hoses and went back to fertilizing corn. Like someone said AA is heavier than air and sinks to the ground. If you weren't carefull went the wind was calm and you were on a flat field, you could get a lung full by bending over to pick something up. | |
