Yep, it's pretty standard. That and homesteading, stagecoach transportation and staking a claim when you go to town for a barrel of salted pork and a couple yards of gingham. As you've seen, though, RFID is a bad, bad idea, because it's just Big Brother getting involved in your business. Instead, brands are used. They've been around forever, dating back to Biblical times when Jacob, the great herdsman, branded his stock, back when crime and sin were first invented. Keep in mind, back then, the kid in the next village over (Marcacius of Pomposity) kept hanging around the grazing area telling all the stockowners how he could get them much better animals at a price half of what theirs were worth, and how it was time to expand, due the the market's impending tripling when exports across the Sea of Galilee took off the next year. That went well until the supposed leaders Johanns and Schafer ruled that he had neither THEE proper pieces of papyrus nor adequate stores of gold to do what he had been doing and they issued a cease and desist decree. Look it up. That simple.

RFID is just government intrusion in your business. Brands are way better. Then all you have to do is have a brand inspector get involved every time an animal is transferred, which hardly ever happens in the cattle bidness. Just so I'm clear, can anyone remind me who the legion of brand inspectors work for? They're doing it out of the goodness of their collective hearts, right? At least the government isn't involved in brand inspection. That would sure be ironic.
