KY
I value all of your replies to this thread, it was a much larger interest than I thought it would be. Ed, seeing your reply made me realize I never replied to your last email, my apologies for that, got caught up and it got lost in the shuffle. Another note, someone said something about dealers not getting excited over small equipment but falling all over themselves over a new combine sale... Last spring I'd been looking for another 6 row planter to update my beyond worn out one... A dealer about 1.5 hrs away in Indiana listed two on their website. They were definitely cheap compared to a new model, but at any rate, they had took them on trade and I figured wanted to sell them. One of them was in grand condition and would've paid asking price if they had stayed pat on it. It took me 40 minutes to get someone to talk to me on it. After that, after we'd agreed on the thing, I was filling out the check and the sales guy said "What are you going to use a 6 row planter for?" I got pretty mad instantly, and I didn't hide it. My reply: "Believe it or not, I'm going to use it to FARM with. I'll probably plant some corn. Possibly plant some beans. You may not know this, but those 6 rows will plant just like a 12 row, 16 or 32. There's zero difference. Now, if you'd get someone out there, I'd like to load my junky old small planter you just sold me and go home!" Never spoke another word and ill not be back there. Some folks woulda left and let them keep it, but it was still the machine I wanted at a price I wanted, and ill be damned if I was gonna let some punk who never opened a bag of seed tell me how to farm.
