N.C. IA | This was the thing I was going to add.....NEVER weld the ends. I bought a book "Welding Secrets" by Hal Wilson, kind of an old timer reflecting on different repairs with the welder over the years. Probably not the best welding book there is, but all throughout the book, he said to never weld the "ends". I think you are on the right track with the plate reinforcements, but if you weld the ends, the metal has an expansion restriction, therefore cracks next to the weld. Otherwise, a lot of good advise already given. | |
