If you ever have absolutely nothing else to do and all your jobs caught up, I will give you a lesson in upright welding. I am not sure when that would be. ;)
It does take the right machine and the right rods. I use a dialarc Miller about 85 amps and 3/32" rods 7018. If the last inch of rod melts and falls down, that is about right for a truck frame.

Then, it is like "how do you get to Carnegie Hall --- practice - practice - practice".
