frederick, MD | here, the good spot of the field will have a much lower soil test then the bad spot. Typically the bad spot will be off the charts. My logic is more yield had remove more fertilizers from the good spots and much less from the bad spots. So if I went to variable rate, which I probally will not because the equipment cost so much money, I would apply less to the low yielding spots and more to the higher yielding spots.
But the way I see it, I cant afford to buy the equipment, and if I have to pay an application company to do it with all the mark up in the fertilizers, I am farther ahead just doing it myself with a blanket application. | |
