Subject: Flawed Scientific Studies abound.

Little River, TX
Yes, Flawed Scientific Studies fill good sized warehouse.

Near here at an Experiment Station a young PhD from Japan did a study on phosphate in the waters of the Leon River.

It should be of no surprise that he found phosphate in increasing amounts the studied portions of the river, terminating in Belton Lake/Reservoir.

As one might expect, with the anti dairy attitude in the local politics the study found that the fending phosphate was from the numerous dairies in the Leon Water Shed.
The study failed to mention that the water from a dairy is highly regulated, nor did the young scientist sample the water adjacent to working dairies.
The study failed to mention the numerous municipalities in the Leon Water Shed, nor did the study mention the amount of phosphates being discharged by the municipal wastee water treatment plants. No mention of the limited regulation and inspection compared to a dairy.

I found some humor in his report. True there is a fairly good phosphate load in the river down to the Belton Lake. He was puzzled by the small amount of phosphate being discharged from the lake. He never noticed the lake is in a basin of lime stone. Much of the land bordering the Leon is Calcareous, and that was not noticed. It never occurred to this young scientist that calcium is highly reactive with phosphate and a reasonable assumption would be the lime in the water turned the phosphate into rock phosphate.

I do not believe his study will have a Peer Review to prove or counter his findings.

Someday this study will be used to shut down the few remaining dairies in the Leon River Water Shed. No one will question the study.
