Yes the trick is to get them thinking for themselves and understanding that the teacher can have a different opinion but not be 'wrong' either.
2+2 still makes 4 we should all agree with that. It is the english language that gets things mixed up because of all the options in word spelling and meaning.
Take cooky or cookie or biscuit. Depends where you live which might be 'correct'.
Write the date in numbers and it gets confusing too.
28/9/12 is the way I was taught to write todays date IF I HAD to use numbers. That was before computers.
Today the international accepted way is 12/9/28 and of course your country writes it 9/28/12.
Now which would be marked correct?
All are considered acceptable in Canada now so forms lay out the required system as DD/MM/YY etc.
