Lander, WY | Schools can be ridiculous... I had a meeting with my son's teacher about some of the asinine problems and tests she gives... as an example, they are working on writing logical paragraphs to answer questions about an article. Sounds great right? Article was about the upcoming election (don't worry, not political)...one of the questions was "When is the election?" Now, tell me how to get a 4-5 sentence logical paragraph from that? The answer is November 6th. Maybe November 6th, which is the first Tuesday of November as elections are always held... Nope, need 4-5 sentences.
Teacher could NOT comprehend that the students wouldn't or couldn't write a paragraph with supporting data and conclusions from that question... She just kept saying that the students need to know how to write a logical paragraph. I agreed, but only to questions that need it. She didn't understand.. I asked her to answer "How old are you?" in a logical paragraph form with data and conclusions. She didn't like that, but I think then she finally figured out what I was saying. Some teachers and schools are so blinded by standards and tests they can't (or don't) think about what they are teaching... | |
