West Central Iowa | Totally agree on the contemporary groups Matt. Especially when whole herd reporting is used or large contemporary groups..........that data is very telling. I also believe that ratios play an even more important role when considering animals from two different herds that do use somewhat different management practices (ex: creep vs no creep). A WW of 650 in the creep fed herd may be a dud while a 650 lb WW in the non-creep fed herd could be the standout.
In the end, finding a herd that is honestly represented by the owner and closely reflects the management practices that you use will provide the best "recipe" for buying seedstock that meet your expectations. | |
