Unless you have some really cheap feed, I don't think creeping spring calves most years pays for itself. We are creeping our spring calves this year because of the extreme drought, trying to get our pastures along and take any stress we can off the cows.
What's the difference between "most years" and this year beings it's a drought? You're still accomplishing the same goals "most years" as you mention for "this year".....it's just that a person doesn't see it that way when they aren't in that frame of mind. I see it as the benefits are everywhere, every year. Some years though, the added benefits are more pronounced then others.
