IL | I fully understand that and that is why I put "here" in bold in my post. I don't see how anyone here wouldn't take any coverage but some people don't. And there is a reason ours is so much cheaper and that is because it rarely pays out. A lot of areas with low APHs would pay out much more often which is why the premiums are higher.
And I don't know anyone who just takes the high coverage so they "don't have to do the work". You have to raise good crops consistently to have high APHs. Higher the APH the lower the premiums. I strive for the highest yields I can every year.
