Almont MI | Are you referring to ARG or cereal rye? I am contemplating my cover crop plans for fall of 12 and was concerned about cereal rye ahead of corn. I put it on all of my soy acres last fall and did a burn down 3 weeks ahead of planting at 12". I am very pleased so far. I may even summons the courage to plant into a growing rye crop for soys next year and burn down after planting to try getting more benefit from the rye( soil moisture is usually not an issue in the spring for us as we typically have too much). On corn however I have heard of the aleopathic (spelling?) effect that it has and I was considering a radish/ hairy vetch combo instead. I would be interested to hear of success with rye in corn. I use a row cleaner/coulter/ spike closing set-up on 20" rows. | |
