Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | I'd highly doubt that is coyotes. Only in a real tough winter will they start hunting in packs, and then they do it to keep the mama cows busy while the other gets a calf. Not cows. Even then they only go after cows if it is real slim pickings elsewhere, like there is no sheep within a 100 miles. Coyotes also tend to use the same places to go in and out. I know a guy who does control for sheep ranches down south, he usually gets coyotes with snares where they cross through a fence.
I'm guessing the Fish and Feathers guy knows it is dogs, he just doesn't want to be the guy who has go a witch hunt through the neighbor's pets. Saying it is coyotes is just a way to say it isn't his problem, and he doesn't need to actually have to work.
I'd spend a few night out there with spotlights with red lens, and rifles/shotguns. Red lenses work well as indirect light doesn't seem to scare them off. Eyes show up good though. | |
