I never believed in the amputation thing. I don't know, maybe it's cuz I'm a woman and it makes me hurt just thinking about it. I know our vet always says to do it. If no milk comes out, I don't know what I'd do. Sometimes after the swelling goes out, it gets a little better, but by that time you have mastitis. We had one cow that stepped on her teat last summer and we treated it 5 different times and it FINALLY got better. But was it worth it? I don't know.
