| If my memory serves me correctly, the RFV value started as a way to measure against a standard. Again, off the top of my head, I'm thinking that a RFV of 100 was the starting point, and that was full bloom alfalfa. From there, the formula gets a bit sketchy, but a RFV of 150 was supposed to have 50% more nutritive value than the standard, I think.
I've got some old forage and nutrition books in the office that I haven't looked at in a while, I'd guess the answer is in there.
