EC Kansas | Many, many, many years ago, a small corporation set up a farming operation in Kansas. They decided to be corporate farmers.
Gates Rubber Company.
They failed.
Kansas has laws against corporate "farming" and land ownership.
Corporate "farmers" will never succeed against the basic individual farmer (includes bto family partnerships or family corporations). They may get discounts on high purchase of inputs, that does not make up for lack of attention and detail to farming and the overhead.
The IILFFF is a corporate model. Lots of management, overhead and lack of personal attention to farming that the individual farmer gives.
Farming for purpose of my post is production grain farming. Not an integrated livestock operation or fruits and nuts and veggies, but basic grain farming.
Corporate farming does succeed in high value vegetable/fruit/nut operations, especially in the western states and southeast.
But, for basic grain farming, the family farmer, bto or lto and inbetween, has nothng to fear from "corporate" farmers.
They will not succeed. They will try, but not make it.
ILLFFF is the latest example.
Granted, they may cause collateral damage, but will not take over. They can't afford it. | |
