Muddrunner, I think you are correct about the mowing late here in TX. However the last few years all we have in the spring seems to be wild oats choking out the bluebonnets. I'm thinking letting the oats go to seed for years has hurt more than it will ever help the flowers, not to mention all the slow drainage due to foot tall grass in the ditches.
