The only free lunch is the gain on energy utilization that we now have because of advances in building materials(better windows, more energy efficient appliances, etc) and advances in crop production(better genetics and better weed control which have raised production levels). The elephant in the closet is the world's rapidly expanding population. Until population growth is reduced then all other issues are a mute point, we will run out of resoures, just a question of how soon.
