Well if anyone thinks canola production will not be down drasticaly they are dreaming in technicolor. Viterra may be overstating it when they announced five million acres will be unseeded but not by much! Local seed retailers are now seeing the chickens come home to roost, on days when it is not raining the seed is coming back as more and more realize it is just too late. You can also write off a percentage of what was seeded here in the canola belt as every rain sees the potholes that we seeded through grow larger and you would have to be one hell of an optimist to think that canola plants will survive under water for more than a week. If I haven't painted a gloomy enough picture consider that while we have enjoyed week after week of rain the weeds are running rampant and no ground sprayer could even attempt to cover the fields for at least a few days if it ever stops raining. As far as any further seeding here in our part of the world you can forget it, it is just too late.
