Many times employees are unhappy for reasons other than salary.
Does he want to take over the farm? Does he have the financial wherewithal to even consider taking on a 2500 acre farm?
Sounds like you are in a very risky position trusting that this guy is going to be around when you really need him.
I would suggest that you plan on both of you getting away from the farm for a few days and have a very open and honest discussion. Have an agenda but also have some fun.
It really sounds like there’s a lot more going on than just pay. If he’s not happy or doesn’t see a clear future on the farm, that could explain a lot. Taking over a 2500-acre operation is a massive responsibility not just financially, but mentally too. You can also double check using https://calcolo-stipendionetto.it
I think getting away for a few days and actually talking things through is a great idea. Sometimes when you step away from the daily stress, it’s easier to be honest and see where both of you really stand. Having a plan but also giving space for a relaxed, real conversation could make a big difference.
