I've actually made your very argument in defense of a local solar farm. 

But, I mean, look at things like Data Centers. They use water, they use loads of power on the local grids. They are noisy. Should they be regulated? 

St. Louis let it's city rot, and moved out and took over some of the best farmland in the State. Should St. Louis have been forced to clean themselves up and should we be restricting Urban sprawl? 

There are legitimate public and long term concerns with "I"ll just do what I want".
