Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I agree on the disks. We use only two sets of disks. One set is the original Deere disks for soybeans. The other set is the eSet style which are used for corn. The original Deere corn disks are in a box on the shelf. PP does have some special sweet corn and other disks available but we have not needed them.
There are three items that need to be changed in each meter when switching between corn and soybeans. 1) the lower brush needs to be moved to an alternative position. 2) The "paper clip" at the top of the seed chamber needs to be pinned out of the way for soybeans but allowed free for corn. 3) The doubles eliminator needs to be pinned out of the way for soybeans but allowed to float for corn.
Since we use Ag Leader SureVacs for section control, we have an extra brush that is installed in a holder toward the top for soybeans. It purpose is to brush off excess seed when the Vac plunger is shut off. This reduces any dribble when the unit is cycled OFF.
When using eSets for corn, the Vacuum level needs to be set quite high. The original Deere Vac gauges may not the higher value. We needed to get a high reading gauge from PP. However this has likely been done on the planter you are considering. |
