Subject: RE: Challenger hydraulic thumb switches

NW Iowa
It's a CAN system that works on a sum of 5 volts.
If they activate on their own, usually its a fingertip.
If you hit one and miraculously another one starts working,
it's a CAN or valve module or armrest module problem.
If you hit one and they all quit working it's the CAN daisy chain, usually.
Unless you have the EDT tool hooked to it and can trace it, or can find a CAN
line with a very high or low voltage, it's guessing at best.
I had one tractor that would act up random valves and
i finally changed all the valve modules out and it went away.
They don't like dirt in the module hyd ports or moisture build up in the module from condensation.
I'm very careful when swapping hoses, keeping the hyd couplers clean
My point is it doesn't take much in the modules or harness,
to knock the CAN system crazy.
If your bar is working and the valve isn't working correctly, it's probably
got a chunk of crap in the valve itself.
If i start having rolling issues, I hook up a hose in a loop on the valves,
and start running it in the shop.
I have spare valves and valve modules sitting on the shelf already allocated i can swap around to help diagnose.
Also make sure you are changing that hyd oil at the proper intervals.
Edit. You can also narrow it down by removing the daisy chain,
and putting the feed harness and terminator on each individual valve and activating it.
I also had a problem on a tractor after they did the park logic update a few yrs back.
The software corrupted the arm rest module and made the valves act up, had to replace it.
