This is a thing, you can re chrome a cylinder rod right? Brother’s friend has a Ford 3500 backhoe I believe, I assume pitted cylinder it sounds like.
I had a pitted rod, but I fixed it with wet sanding.
It worked perfectly for 20 years after that.
