Shelburne Ontario Canada | We run both macdons and case. Wefix bent macdons as a hobby. Do macdon work amazing , yes, are they perfect, NO. We are flat land. Where we really love our 3162s is fresh cleaned or rocky dirt. Macdon a cedar rail pc or loose rock touches guard its in the head. Case head shakes a bit , header hieght yanks up an back down and out back come a 8 in cedar rail pc, yes we roll ever ac. But far from perfect conditions. Case knife drive with lastest up dates run nice. We have not snapped a knife head since we updated 3 yrs ago. We have the air bag in center last 2 yrs and that elimanated center pushing. Factory set up. was terrible. On an non in cab the book says to adjust bolt tensions to half up half down travel on torsions, well wen do u see crop push the knife down!! So far we have always adjusted them that all u do is put a hand on it to push it 1 inch down against stop , then u get ur full 12 inch travel to follow the terrian. Not 1 complaint from our customers running them. The combine runninng the macdon needs spare guards and sickles in cab . The case we carry but very rarely use them. For sure in beans case head will be driving while i changing section on the macdon. If u get an oops (wich AG TALK farmers seemingly never do ) u have a 6 inch groove 3 ft wide the full length of a section. Turn around the dust leaves u see ,,,well shucks,,, u hit that with macdon u will have 6 inch stubble 3 ft wide the full length of that , the case will clean it up . Yes ur header will dip and maybe slug feed a wee bit but that doesnt affect my pc of crap garbage black top 8010 thats not agtalk approved either. In standing wheat macdon is cats wiskers. Wen i get into flat wheat climbing into behind the wheel of the 3162 i can relax and it just feels like comin home! Is it perfect , No! I have run 3020,3162, 2162,Fd70,Fd75,Fd1, my favourite is still my 3162, we park at shop every nite. Check center oil, grease knife every 5 hrs of operation, thats our expirence, seems to me the 880C has a much better name than the 3162, same head, but new holland guys run them and like them, if u ever get into a tangled macdon smile frown linkage nite mare those things arent that amazing! But we sure enjoy fixing bent ones, but come bean season u wont catch me pushing a macdon, each to there own. But i side with the guy that posted of guy bashing them. The custom cutters hate them. The put a guy in seat , drive all day, tomorow again. They couldnt care less if they get all the crop in most conditions. If ur in wild terrain , yes its macdon and only macdon , but in that terrian they ussually doing wheat not beans, 4 to 6 inch stubble no problem in a little dip or dive, match ur need. If you buy a pc of crap header you heard on agtalk is garbage, if ur flat land , you will be thrilled how it works! | |
