Heart of Ohio | I have wanted to try this for a few years and this year is the year. This is the earliest I've ever planted anything except oats. Soil conditions were near ideal and planted real nice. High of 81* today, 10 day shows some lows of mid 30's next week highs from 54 to 75. Thought I'd give it go since others have told me the wheat strips help protect emerged beans from frost if that happens in the next couple weeks. We'll see. Top dressed wheat strips with 28% and Thiosul with streamer nozzles last week. Interesting that outside two rows of wheat had greened up noticeably sooner than inside two rows, has more tillers and taller too, guessing afternoon sun / extra warmth from open soil space, and extra nutrient availability contributed to this. Open to any tips or suggestions from others who have tried this. Weed control has me concerned, sprayer hoods are on standby. Already have a few things I'll do different on next attempt at this.
