Subject: Springs for cable fence?

Earlville, NY
Ive got an alley way in our treated cow barn along outside wall that we have started using as a holding lane for drying cows, hoof trimming etc. Have be using 2x10 boards nailed to the wall posts, 8' OC, to protect sidewall curtain. Need to replace some, with price of lumber, thought instead I'd try a few strands of 3/8" cable that we use for manure alley scrapers. Will be about 80' long with posts every 8', I was just going to put a turnbuckle on one end. For that length should there be a tension spring as well?
