Olivetroad, interesting use of those winches! Have you had problems with cattle flipping the latch open? On the cable fence I've put up I just used turn buckles to tighten them and keep tight. I used cable/wire puller to get initial pull, then use turnbuckles to finish. Only problem I ever had was keeping Holstein cows from licking and turning turn buckles loose. So after I got all turn buckles set I would take some double barbless wire and run a strand down though all the center of the turn buckles and tie it off so they couldn't turn any of them. It's amazing what a bored milk cow can do to destroy things. I got to thinking about your winches, if a cow was to lick or bump them open could you drill a hole and put a bolt though winch frame it to keep lever from coming open?
