Subject: John Deere 9600 engine rpm's surging

Bergen, MN
We have been chasing this problem for years. Last year we put a new alternator on the machine at start of beans and had zero issues for the rest of the season. Just pulled it out of the shed last weekend and it is surging rpm's when I get up to operating temp. Will slowly drop from full tilt to 1600rpm or so then almost done and scream back up to full tilt. Only happens once up to operating temp and does it every 30 seconds. Replaced relays, cleaned grounds, fuel filters, cleaned pencil filter in tank, checked connections on cab, below hydro tank, and on top of charge cooler. Wiggling wires on injection pump and engine compartment doesn't help. Anyone know something a guy could try?
