Central IA | Well, I feel the dry finally caught up to my fields. Started year with full soil profile. Rain shut off 1st of June. Really thought corn was doing well. Then that big rain we were forecast to get mid week a week ago.. ~23rd. Received .2-.3 of an inch. Best rain in a month. This week corn finally looks like it has been dry.
Pulled a few ears. Pollinated well, just 14 rows is best ear I found. If we can squeeze half inch this Saturday night, I think 180 is still a possibility. But if not kernels will be small. Then we scouted today and seed dealer flew a drone.
Another kick in the gut. What looked like possibly my best. A 111 day corn verity seems to be the raccoon favorite.
This is the first day I really feel defeated. I know some have worse crops. North West of me towards Carroll is bad. But I bet there is a good crop coming, just not here. Now time to figure out budget so I still farm next year. As every number I used this year will not work.
