ecsd | Back in February I bought 30 bred Hereford/red angus heifers due to calve march 14. As of today I have 18 that have calved. Of the 18 that have calved I have pulled 11. I had the vet out on the one and she commented on how small her pelvic bone was, (it was a hard pull). She said that she should have never been bred due to the size of the heifer. I told her that they are all like that. She said if I breed them again that I should find the lowest birth weight bull I could find. She said that they will grow a little, but she didn't know if they would grow enough so I wouldn't have to pull them again next year. Would you guys just sell them as feeders and find something else or breed them back again? This is NOT fun! I don't want to pull everyone next year too. I don't mind one or two, but 11 is a little much. They are a nice gentle herd, it is just they are small heifers. all opinions appreciated!! TIA |
