Subject: Accumulated GDUs--black layer corn next week?

Playing around with Pioneer's GDU calculator (can be found here: https://www.pioneer.com/home/site/us/tools-apps/growing-tools/gdu/) can give some real insight to crop maturity across the corn belt. For 105ish day corn in many areas of Iowa theoricital black layer will occur early next week for corn planted around May 1st. This would be about 2 calendar weeks ahead of last year for black layer date given similar hybrids--not sure what it means for crop size. August 2018 is trending about 7 degrees warmer than last August through the first 15 days over much of Iowa--again not sure what that means for crop size, just an observation. Looking back at highs and lows from August 2017, I had forgotten just how cool August 2017 was--several low temps in upper 40s in central Iowa.
