South central NC | What's your thoughts on sprigging hay on land that isn't yours? There are a few fields near me that are really sandy and dry. I've been planting some of them in soybeans the last few years and they never yield too good. They would be great hay fields though.
Would you pay to have hay sprigged on rented ground?
How would you go about a long term (10 years?) lease on the land? I know if I pay to have it sprigged I won't see any return for the first maybe two years.
There's a local guy here that does sprigging for about $125 an acre. It seems like a lot of input to sprig about 50 acres, but I'm sure it would be profitable in the future. But then again, I wouldn't want to invest money into something like that and then 3 years down the road the land owner decide they want to lease it to someone else.
I'm sure someone will say get the landowner to pay part of the cost, but I already know thats impossible here lol.
Thanks for your input | |
