Breckenridge, MI | Reading Puff's stocker/backgrounder thread I see a lot of talk about grass traps. What are they? I guess I'm imagining a small pasture with good fence attached to a barn or at least a feed bunk and an apron to get them started in but still easily be able to treat sick ones. What's the typical stocking rate? I know that probably depends on where you're at but here I think an acre would support 2 stocker calves for a summer. So in a grass traps are you running double that? Say 40 head on 10 acres? More? Less?
I'm just a feeder but that sounds like a nice way to start incoming calves. | |
