Elsmore, Kansas | Had a heifer have a still born Friday. Finally found a calf today to put on her. Stuck calf in the pen with the cow and it started to suck and she let it for about 15 seconds then it was over. Kick, kick, kick. This heifer wants to be a momma as she is chasing around every new calf and she bawls all the time. In the past we have always pen the mom and calf up and then put her in a stantion, tie a leg up and let the calf have at it. Eventually momma gives in or the calf just says hey gal u ain't gonna stop me and they then pair up. So I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have any other tricks up there sleeves that work for them that are not like what I'm doing or tricks that make the process easier? Sorry for rambling and TIA.
