Subject: What killed my dairy cow?

Kaukauna WI
Milked a cow this morning, and she went down on the way out of the parlor. Apparently was doing well up to this point. Was fresh about 30 days.

Was breathing a little fast. She had had milk fever a month ago. Ears were a little cold and droopy, eyes a little sunk not real bad, so we gave her a bottle of calcium very slowly. When we stuck the needle in, her blood was quite brown (never a good thing).

An hour later, she was breathing much faster and more labored, to the point where we could hear her grunts when breathing. Mouth is now open at this point. Eyes sinking in. Just when I thought she would die, she got up, stood there about a minute, and then fell over dead.

All sorts of watery, bloody, foamy stuff came out of her mouth. Buckets and buckets.
