Subject: Diabetes update

IL
Well, we are at the 2 week mark of when we found out our ( as of yesterday BDay) 13 yr old son has diabetes. Things are progressing, and we are all learning to work thru it. He has always had a pretty good diet, but now just needs to acct better for the crutons and ranch dressing on his salads ;). Otherwise he hasn't had to change the diet too much. Dr's reccs. He's a growing kid, so still needs the carbs. Just need to match up the doses to intake
2 weeks ago today his blood sugar count was 455. The following week it hung in the 200's. At SUPPER time tonite it was 58. Yea that spooked us. We told him to get to eating! We are getting better at matching the insulin doses to his counts and the food he eats.
Also, we see the results of working outside/exercising, or lack thereof.
He is getting better at giving himself the shots, but is still very painful. Bloodtests are coming easier tho.
We are getting used to the new habits now, but with all of our traveling/running around, need to remember the new necessities when packing.
Thank you
