Subject: competition for light?

Clark SD

Have a  field where we planted corn into spring wheat stubble. On one end there was a strip of rye coming. Here is what i observed.
There was two different hybrids that were planted in the strips.
In the rye strip(picture 1) hybrid A had 4 leaf collars and was 10 inches tall leaf over and hybrid B had 3 collars and was 8 inches tall.
Exiting the rye strip the plants were shorter( left side of picture 2 ) Hybrid A had 4 leaf collars and was 7-8 inches tall and hybrid B had 3 leaf collars and was 6 inches tall.
