Subject: Trash whippers plugging

I have Martin 13" trash whippers on my 950 Cyclo and have always had trouble with the things plugging up.  They are not hitting the frame anywhere and I have residue deflectors on them.  They only plug up in corn stalks.  Right now I am planting corn on bean ground, but the few corn stalks from 2 years ago are causing problems.  Ground is  slightly wet but manageable.

The stalks seem to be getting caught behind the trash wheels, between the gauge wheel  pins and the wheels.  I've got the wheels set to intersect.  Would offset be better?  I'm running the wheels a little deeper then most people would.  I seem to have less trouble by moving a little dirt.

The last two years I've taken the trash whippers off when I planted beans on corn ground. They would plug up every 10 feet.   I should also point out I do not have any type of coulter in front.  Any thoughts?
