Grandview, TX | I’m looking at buying a power shift 385 Steiger with 3,100 hrs. An older farmer that’s downsizing is selling it. I pulled oil analysis on the engine, transmission, and hydraulic oil. Everything checks out except for the transmission analysis. It shows high on iron. I drove it around one day and it shifted fine. I came back a couple days later with the oil sample kits and let it run about 45 minutes before I pulled a sample but did not drive it. I pulled the transmission sample by sucking it up with a tube from the fill hole.
This is my first time pulling a sample and am surprised it would test like this with this low of hours. I talked with the owner and he’s said that he has changed it in the past and hadn’t seen anything. Has anyone seen samples get skewed for some reason ? At this level, should I be able to drain a little into a bucket and see metal shavings ?
