Subject: Flushing cooling systems and additive

HAd a leaking 3/8 pipe plug on a 3208 in a tractor recently. Removed the plug to find it was 1/2 gone. Electrolisis had ate it away. Needless to say, my dad had never serviced the old tractor. I flushed it out with water really well and replaced the coolant.
What cooling system additive do you reccommend? Is there an increased risk of washing something loose with the additive over straight coolant and creating other leaks?
I also have a 4020 that I am going to flush and am concerned that an additive could cause more problems than solve after so long of not being serviced.
Any advice is most welcome.
