Subject: Is There Any Money In Custom Work?

Freedom, WI
I've been thinking about this for a while now. Is there any money to be made in custom work? Land is harder to come by and expensive in our area, so cash cropping isn't an option. I like doing fieldwork, and if there is enough money to gain some extra income for the dairy, why not go at it? I was thinking if I did try to get into the business, I would try and find a JD 4630 or IH 14/1586 or something around that hp mark and start out with some tillage and possibly planting. Because we have the dairy, I was thinking I could buy a tractor and rent some equipment from grandma to start out. Also, there is a friend of mine who might be on board with something like this. I have seen an occasional ad on CL for custom work and wonder how those guys do. I know it all depends on the area. I would like to focus on doing it right and not so much about quantity. Any advice is appreciated.
