Subject: Your opinion on transmission flush's?

Martinsville, Ohio

The Dakota has 193k on it now and looking at an automatic transmission rebuild.  Shops charge around $160 for a flush versus the $50 or so regular filter, oil and labor which you can do yourself for $20 or so.  That is all I have done every 25k miles but the torque converter and pump noise is getting louder so I figure it is time to rebuild it or move it on down the road.

The flush isn't going to increase the life of it at this much mileage and I am sure a lot of people put $160 in the flush as a rescue when the money should be spent on a rebuild.

I think I know your response but I offer the question anyway.  I am sure it happens to a lot of people.

Ed
