'Here' "they" say you can't shift in an intersection for 2 reasons, one is having to take your hand off the wheel to shift, second is in case something goes wrong ei miss a shift and have to stop, transmission chooses that moment to fail etc.
In reality we all shift through intersection, we don't have all day to get where we're going!
