I agree hay is a big part of the cost of a beef cow, and I think hay is a rather expensive way to feed cows. In my area it doesn't yield enough, and is hard to get good dry hay, and wrapping it makes it very expensive.

I have the majority of my stored cow feed as corn silage, they waste less, and I get way more feed per acre, and good feed every time. Only downfall is the years you have to chop corn in the mud.
